My Personal Birth Stories
The births of my own children changed my perspective on birth forever !! The education I received as a doula empowered me, not just for the births I support, but even my own. I strive to help you feel empowered, safe, and confident in your own birth experience.!!
My First Birth: The birth of my firstborn was my longest and most challenging labor. From the time my water broke, to the time I felt her tiny head crowning was a grueling 18 hours. I was terrified and unprepared. It was a medicated, vaginal, hospital birth. Although I had the support of my husband, family, and hospital staff, I still didn't feel prepared, educated enough about birth, and it was evident. After that birth, I began researching childbirth education courses because I felt there had to be a more confident and rewarding experience attached to the gift of giving birth.
My Second Birth: I made the decision to birth unmedicated, vaginally, in the hospital. Prior to giving birth, I took a childbirth education course with my husband and I felt better prepared. Through that childbirth education course, I learned how to labor at home, implementing coping techniques and comfort measures. I arrived to the hospital at 9cm dilated. My nurse happened to be a birth doula and she supported me through the final stage of labor. I knew that was a sign to begin my own certification.
My Third Birth: Between the births of my second and third babies, I began my certification journey as a childbirth doula. I can only describe that birth as "supernatural". I remember months of mentally preparing my self, conditioning, and educating myself. I selected a doula and had the most empowering experience in giving birth. I gave birth to my only son unmedicated, vaginally, and in full confidence of what my mind and body could do. I KNEW I HAD FOUND MY CALLING!
My Fourth Birth: On the cusp of the global pandemic, I was a few weeks away from giving birth. My OBGYN practice was closing and I was faced with the decision to birth at home. I contacted my doula and secured a spot with a local midwife. The birth of my last baby was completely unmedicated. It was beyond supernatural!! I gave birth in the comfort of my own home. No cervical checks. No one to limit me. I felt confident, safe, and empowered.
